Abstract
Three papers focus on professional standards in legal psychiatry and psychology, with emphasis on qualifications, training, formal codes and standards, and ethical issues involved in interdisciplinary cooperation. Six papers discuss the techniques and procedures used in psychiatric and psychological assessment and treatment. Three papers provide legal perspectives on family violence and child abuse, child custody issues in divorce and separation litigation, and juvenile delinquency. Four papers focus on diagnostic and treatment issues related to sexually related offenses, with emphasis on sexually aggressive behavior in general, sexually abused children, rape victims, and male genital exhibitionism. Two papers focus on the legal implications of the antisocial personality and of disorders of impulse control. The final four papers review the changing and growing roles played by mental health professionals in the American court and prison systems. Chapters examine current issues in treatment and rehabilitation in prison mental health programs, problems facing forensic psychiatrists and psychologists, and the role of psychiatric testimony in civil proceedings.
