Abstract
NEW CONTROVERSY OVER WHAT CONSTITUTES ACCEPTABLE EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION, AS WELL AS NEW APPLICATIONS OR REFINEMENTS OF RESEARCH TECHNIQUES ARE DISCUSSED. THE ROLES OF EDUCATORS, GRADUATE EDUCATION, PERSONNEL POLICIES, AND THE LEAA'S RESEARCH PROGRAM IN FORENSIC SCIENCE ARE EMPHASIZED. HIGHLY TECHNICAL INFORMATION IS PRESENTED ON ADVANCES IN SUCH AREAS AS SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE ANALYSIS, BULLET SEARCH SYSTEMS, GUNSHOT AND FIREARM RESIDUE ANALYSIS, AND ARSON RESIDUE ANALYSIS. RESEARCH IS ALSO SUMMARIZED IN SUCH AREAS AS INK AND BLOODSTAIN ANALYSIS, FORENSIC TOXICOLOGY, AND NEW APPLICATIONS FOR PHOTOLUMINESCENCE TECHNIQUES.
