Abstract
THE OPENING ARTICLES OFFER OVERVIEWS OF THE HISTORY OF THE FORENSIC SCIENCES IN THE UNITED STATES AND OF THE STATUS OF FORENSIC SCIENCE IN THE UNITED STATES AND OTHER COUNTRIES. A SECTION ON CRIMINALISTICS INCLUDES AN OUTLINE OF PROBLEMS IN CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION AND AN OVERVIEW OF LABORATORY ORGANIZATION, ACTIVITIES, AND PROCESSING OF COLLECTED EVIDENCE. GENERAL ASPECTS OF FORENSIC PATHOLOGY ARE DISCUSSED, AND MATERIALS ARE PRESENTED PERTAINING TO THE FOLLOWING SPECIAL PROBLEM AREAS IN FORENSIC PATHOLOGY: MEDICOLEGAL INVESTIGATION OF DEATH; ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION; HOMICIDE AND SUICIDE INVESTIGATION; SEX CRIMES; AND CASES INVOLVING CHILDREN. SPECIAL PROBLEMS IN FORENSIC TOXICOLOGY ARE DISCUSSED RELATIVE TO ALCOHOL AND ALCOHOLISM, DRUGS AND DRUG ABUSE, POISONINGS, AND POLLUTION. OTHER MATERIALS COVER FORENSIC ANTHROPOLOGY, FORENSIC DENTISTRY, FORENSIC PSYCHIATRY, FORENSIC SEROLOGY, LEGAL MEDICINE, QUESTIONED DOCUMENTS, AND LEGAL ASPECTS OF FORENSIC WORK.
