INVENTORIES AND EVALUATES THE PRESENT COMMUNICATION SYSTEM BEING USED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND MAKES RECOMMENDATIONS FOR NEW SYSTEM.
Abstract
AN INVENTORY OF THE PRESENT POLICE RADIO EQUIPMENT INDICATE THAT THERE ARE THREE VHF MOBILE RELAY CHANNELS, ALONG WITH ONE UHF FOOT PATROL CHANNEL PRESENTLY IN USE IN FORT WORTH. COMMENTS ARE MADE ON CHANNEL DISTRIBUTION BY DIVISION. A SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT SYSTEM STATES THAT IT IS OVERCROWDED AND TENDS TO OVERLOAD AND PROVIDE INADEQUATE SERVICES ESPECIALLY DURING TIMES OF EMERGENCY. THERE ALSO EXISTS A LACK OF TRAINING PROCEDURES AND MAINTENANCE TO INSURE A PROPER AND SMOOTH OPERATING SYSTEM. MAJOR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A NEW SYSTEM INCLUDE MORE CHANNELS AND BETTER USE OF CHANNELS, BETTER AND MORE DISPATCHING POSITIONS, AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MORE COMPREHENSIVE AND SUITABLE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM.
