This television program script looks at the attempt by the government to eradicate the cultivation in California of America's most popular drug, marijuana.
Abstract
Agents of a special marijuana patrol called CAMP, Campaign Against Marijuana Planting, use helicopters to search the countryside for illegal marijuana crops. The type of marijuana now grown is called Humboldt Gold and is much stronger than the old varieties. This report covers the execution of a search warrant on the home of a suspected grower and visits a "grow" store which stocks everything a person would need to grow marijuana at home. Also included is a discussion with Dr. Alex Stalkof of the Haight Ashbury Detox Program. His job in treating abusers is to try to find out what mental health problem lies under the marijuana haze. The program covers the locating of a farm in the hill country of Eastern Kentucky where marijuana is grown as a cash crop. Some of the problems in prosecuting these "farmers" are discussed. The possible medical uses of marijuana to curb nausea in chemotherapy treatment is also reviewed.
