This journal reviews applied research related to corrections policy, programming, and management issues.
Abstract
The journal features original articles contributed by staff of the Correctional Service of Canada and other international researchers and practitioners. This number of the journal is divided into four sections: Research in Brief, Offender Assessment, Correctional Treatment, and Program Evaluation. The four sections contain 14 articles concerning: (1) What works in offender programming; (2) Defining correctional programs; (3) The effects of community sanctions and incarceration on recidivism; (4) General issues and considerations in offender assessment; (5) Reducing recidivism by enhancing treatment effectiveness; (6) Treatment resistance in corrections; (7) Education programming for offenders; (8) Reconceptualizing offender employment; (9) The future of young offender policy; (10) Assessment and treatment of sexual offenders; (11) Programming for violent offenders; (12) Problems of self-regulation among adult offenders; (13) Guidelines for asking the right questions and communicating results; and (14) Cost-effective correctional treatment.
