Abstract
THIS BOOK POSITS THAT HIGHER EDUCATION AND THE POLICE SERVICE ARE COMPATIBLE, THAT MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS FOR PRESERVICE ENTRY INTO THE POLICE FIELD WILL CONTINUE TO BE ELEVATED. REASONING IS PRESENTED WHICH PROMPTED THE MULTNOMAH COUNTY, OREGON, SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT TO ASK FOR THE ELEVATION OF ITS MINIMUM PRESERVICE ENTRY EDUCATIONAL STANDARD, AND THE MATERIAL WHICH WAS USED TO DOCUMENT AND SUPPORT THE REQUEST. THE BOOK SUMMARIZES PRESS REACTION TO THE PROPOSALS, LEGISLATIVE SUPPORT WHICH SPEAKS TO ELEVATED EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS AND SUMMARIZES POLICE EDUCATION IN ENGLAND AND WALES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
