The organization and recent activities of Israel's National Crime Reduction Council (NCRCI) include identification of the efforts of working groups established to deal with vehicle-related theft and crimes against the elderly.
Abstract
Founded in September 1988, the NCRCI operates at both national and local/regional levels within several contexts: a general assembly that meets at least twice yearly both to receive surveys and situational reports and to determine policy; an executive board that makes decisions and monitors the implementation of those decisions consistent with NCRCI policies; and professional working groups for the planning, coordination, and monitoring of activities. Recommendations of the working group on vehicle-related theft include testing electronic and mechanical anti-theft products on the market to determine compatibility with Israeli standards and conducting vehicle-parts marking campaigns. One primary recommendation of the working group on crimes against the elderly is to establish hot lines to respond to information on incidents of elderly abuse and to provide counseling on a variety of subjects. The plan for next year is to form working groups on juvenile delinquency and its prevention, on victims of crime, and on physical security measures for personal and public property.
