THIS SEMINAR CONSIDERED THE LIMITS OF REPRESSION IN RELATION TO POSSIBLE POSITIVE RESULTS OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE EFFORTS AND TO THE RAPID AND SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENTS IN OTHER FIELDS DIRECTLY AFFECTING CRIMINOLOGY.
Abstract
FOUR AREAS OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE EFFORTS WERE EXAMINED: ILLEGAL DRUG USE AND ABUSE, MORALS-DECENCY OFFENSES, ECONOMIC CRIMES, AND HIGHWAY AND TRAFFIC SAFETY. THE ISSUES DISCUSSED WERE THE ACTUAL EXTENT AND NATURE OF THE PROBLEMS AND THE EXISTING LEVELS OF LEGAL REPRESSION, THE JUSTIFICATION FOR INTERVENTION AND DETERRENT EFFORTS ON THE PART OF PUBLIC AUTHORITIES, AND THE MOST EFFECTIVE METHODS, REPRESSIVE OR OTHERWISE, FOR DEALING WITH THE PROBLEMS. THIS REPORT ON THE SEMINAR PROCEEDINGS INCLUDES THE PAPERS PRESENTED DURING THE FOUR DAYS AS WELL AS A SUMMARY ANALYSIS OF THE DISCUSSIONS ON EACH OF THE FOUR AREAS OF INTEREST. --IN FRENCH...ELW
