The construction of precast concrete cells, a possible solution to prison crowding, combines the speed of modular construction with the security, appearance, and permanency of conventional masonry construction.
Abstract
The use of precast concrete monolithic cells significantly reduces construction time for high security facilities. Additional savings are possible when precast modules are used to complete the entire building. Contractors are learning how fully furnished cells can be integrated with construction of the entire prison. As production methods increase in efficiency, the cost to produce the cells has declined. Regional and national manufacturers are available for consultation about the specific application of the precast concrete cells.
