IT IS OF GREAT IMPORTANCE TO COORDINATE THE WORK OF THE VARIOUS ELEMENTS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM - THE POLICE, THE PUBLIC PROSECUTORS, THE COURTS, ETC. - IN THE EFFORT TO COMBAT ORGANIZED CRIME EFFECTIVELY.
Abstract
CASE HISTORIES ARE CITED ILLUSTRATING THE VALUE OF COORDINATED EFFORTS, AND PARTICULARLY AS REGARDS THE EXCHANGING OR POOLING OF INFORMATION REGARDING INDIVIDUAL OFFENDERS AND ORGANIZATIONS. ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE OF THE TELEPHONE CONVERSATIONS OF KNOWN OR SUSPECTED MEMBERS OF CRIMINAL ORGANIZATIONS CAN PROVIDE MUCH USEFUL INFORMATION. MEASURES SUCH AS HOUSE SEARCHES DIRECTED AGAINST ONE MEMBER MAY CAUSE CONSTERNATION IN THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION, PARTICULARLY IF IT IS KNOWN THAT SUCH THINGS AS DRUGS OR WEAPONS MAY BE FOUND. THIS CAN DISRUPT THE CRIMINAL GANG, BUT COORDINATED PLANNING IS NECESSARY FOR IT TO BE EFFECTIVE. --IN GERMAN
