Abstract
The historical development of the place of the victim in criminology is defined as protagonization or abandonment, neutralization, and rediscovery. Rediscovery resulted in research on the etiology/explanation, perceptions and attitudes, methodology, criminal fear, and social fear of victims. Particular mention is made of programs for immediate victim assistance, restitution, compensation, victim/witness protection, effectiveness of the legal system for the victim, and legal justice for the victim. A new victim justice model is suggested. 57 notes
