This manual provides the core content of a fundraising workshop designed to guide program managers in planning and executing fundraising as a team effort.
Abstract
The manual advises that fundraising should not be done by just one staff member, but rather should involve the board of directors, paid staff, and volunteers. A list of funding sources encompasses members, major gifts, pledges, alumni, fees for service, special events, products for sale, United Way, foundation grants, corporations, vendors, and civic organizations. An outline for the development of a fundraising plan includes a needs assessment, goal setting, strategy planning, the development of a 1-year fundraising calendar, plan implementation, evaluation, and provision for recognition and awards. The manual contains group exercises designed to help people develop the confidence and learn the skills required to ask individuals and organizations for money. Other elements of the training address the role of volunteers, fundraising by members of the board of directors, the designation of a fundraising committee, and the recruitment of short-term volunteers for fundraising activities. 9 references and lists of 22 fundraising resources and 5 volunteer resources
