These nine papers examine the future of policing and the police environment and identify areas in which policy changes are needed to deal with future trends, particularly in Canada.
Abstract
Individual papers examine the future of the police role and its implications for the future, the views of law enforcement professionals regarding future issues in policing, and the relationship between human rights and the criminal justice system in the 1990's. Other papers consider the impacts of terrorism worldwide and the implications for police agencies and interagency cooperation, the effects of demographic changes in Canada on policing, and the future of law enforcement efforts to control drug abuse and trafficking. Further papers consider the relationship between private security personnel and publicly supported police and the role of police leaders in the 21st century. Figures and chapter reference lists.
