MAJOR PATTERNS IN THE CONCEPTION AND PERPETRATION OF VIOLENCE IN WORLD HISTORY ARE REVIEWED AND ANALYZED AND ASSESSMENTS ARE MADE OF THE FORMS OF VIOLENCE LIKELY TO DEVELOP IN THE WORLD IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
Abstract
INDIVIDUAL AND MASS VIOLENCE IN HISTORY ARE REVIEWED FROM THE PERSPECTIVES OF GROUP PSYCHOLOGY, MASS MEDIA, POLITICAL AND RELIGIONS IDEOLOGY, MILITARY TECHNOLOGY, ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY, AND PACIFIST THOUGHT. THE DISCUSSION RELATES THE CAUSES, FORMS, AND RATIONALES FOR VIOLENCE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF MAJOR POLITICAL AND SOCIAL ISSUES IN BOTH WESTERN AND NON-WESTERN HISTORY. THE BOOK CONCLUDES THAT, DESPITE THE GROWING VIOLENCE OF CRIME AND TERRORISM IN OUR PRESENT DAY, THE WIDESPREAD INCREASE IN COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC AWARENESS HAS MADE THE MASS VIOLENCE OF WAR LESS LIKELY.
