The Youth Diversion Process (YDP) described here involves setting up a communications network and a working relationship between community agencies, organizations, alternative programs, and services; the Milwaukee Police Department; the Milwaukee school system; and parents throughout the city.
Abstract
YDP outreach specialists would work with gang members in three ways: immediate crisis prevention, development of an ongoing relationship with gang members, and recruitment of gang members into intensive diversion programming. This booklet describes the intake process of the YDP, provides definitions related to the gang culture in Milwaukee, describes indicators of gang activity, and lists commonly used gang terminology and slang.
