GEARED TO A YOUTHFUL AUDIENCE, THIS FILM SHOWS THE POWER THAT GROUPS HAVE OVER THEIR MEMBERS IN DEMANDING CONFORMITY AND WARNS OF THE DANGERS OF THAT CONFORMITY.
Abstract
FOOTAGE OF PEOPLE ON THE JOB, AT SCHOOL, AND AT LEISURE DEMONSTRATES THAT EVERYONE BELONGS TO ONE GROUP OR ANOTHER. THOUGH GROUPS DIFFER IN PURPOSE, ALL GROUPS ARE SUBJECT TO COMMON INFLUENCES: IMITATION, DEMAND FOR LOYALTY TO THE GROUP, AND GROUP (OR 'MOB') PSYCHOLOGY. THE FILM EMPHASIZES THE NEED FOR INDEPENDENT THINKING, PARTICULARLY WHEN A MEMBER OF A GROUP IS TEMPTED BY PRESSURE TO DO SOMETHING THAT IS OBVIOUSLY WRONG. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED).
