This annual report (July 1, 1979 to June 30, 1980) presents a review of how the Georgia Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) has discharged its responsibilities by aiding local courts, conducting studies, making recommendations for changes, and other activities. Summaries of the judicial work of the principal courts of record and the work of other judicial agencies are also included.
Abstract
The report highlights the accomplishments of the AOC in the areas of communications, administration, education, planning, research and published studies, and technical assistance. It presents data on caseloads of the appellate courts, superior courts, State courts, juvenile courts, probate courts, and other courts. Accomplishments of the AOC's judicial council agencies and other judicial agencies are mentioned, and the annual reports of the Council of Juvenile Court Judges and the Georgia Justice Courts Training Council are supplied. During the year, the Judicial Council was restructured to provide greater representation of the judiciary and the adjustment of the AOC to the impending demise of LEAA. For example, both the number of staff and the number of technical assistance projects were trimmed to accommodate reduced funding. In addition, the AOC maintained basic research on the courts and their work in the areas of jury management, recordkeeping, caseflow, automated information systems, and facility standards. Moreover, 11 educational programs were conducted for the continuing education of court personnel during the year. Six new judgeships and a new judicial circuit were created. Tables, graphs, charts, and a map are supplied. Appendixes include relevant statutes, a list of judicial personnel changes, and other information.
