GOALS, OBJECTIVES, AND STANDARDS OF THE 1979 COURT PLAN FOR THE STATE OF GEORGIA ARE ARTICULATED.
Abstract
THE JUDICIAL PLANNING COMMITTEE WAS CREATED IN RESPONSE TO THE CRIME CONTROL ACT OF 1976 IN WHICH CONGRESS MANDATED THAT THE JUDICIARY HAVE A GREATER VOICE IN THE PLANNING OF PROGRAMS FINANCED AND ADMINISTERED BY THE LEAA. THE 1979 COURT PLAN WAS DEVISED BY MEMBERS OF THE JUDICIAL BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT IN GEORGIA, IN COLLABORATION WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF ALL COURTS OF RECORD IN THE STATE, PROSECUTORS, DEFENSE COUNSEL, AND THE STATE BAR OF GEORGIA. PROBLEM AREAS NOTED IN THE PLAN CONCERN THE STRUCTURE OF THE COURT SYSTEM, COURT MANAGEMENT, FINANCING OF THE COURT SYSTEM, PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION, AND FACILITIES. GOALS, WITH RELATED OBJECTIVES AND STANDARDS, ARE SPECIFIED IN RELATION TO THE QUALITY OF JUSTICE, PROSECUTION SERVICES, INDIGENT DEFENSE, PROBATION, PRETRIAL RELEASE, SENTENCING, DIVERSION, JUDICIAL PLANNING, THE JURY SYSTEM, COURT REPORTING, BUDGET PREPARATION, PERSONNEL RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING, AND FACILITY DESIGN. TWO MAJOR PRIORITIES FOR 1979 ARE ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES AND EDUCATION AND TRAINING FOR JUDGES AND COURT PERSONNEL. FORECASTS ARE MADE FOR 1979, 1980, AND 1981 WITH REGARD TO PROBLEM AREAS IDENTIFIED IN THE PLAN. (DEP)
