This report details the activities and accomplishments of the Georgia Department of Corrections during 1992, when the agency cut 950 positions and almost $55 million from the budget at the same time that the inmate population increased by 10 percent.
Abstract
The report details achievements in general operations, community corrections, medical and mental health care, escape prevention, correctional industries, food and farm programs, inmate education, and computer services. The State now has 36 institutions accredited by the American Correctional Association, more than any other State agency. In addition, by the end of fiscal year 1994, the State will add almost 7,000 new prison beds to the system, resulting in a final maximum operating capacity of just over 39,000 beds. Despite the massive growth, the average inmate cost of incarceration has declined from $50 to $47 per day. Figures, tables, map, photographs, and addresses of correctional institutions
