FIFTH QUARTER REPORT ON A PROJECT WHICH OPERATES TWO COMMUNITY-BASED FACILITIES THAT PROVIDE INTENSIVE REHABILITATION THERAPY AND WORK RELEASE TO INMATES, PAROLEES, AND PROBATIONERS.
Abstract
INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT ARE AN EVALUATION OF THE PROGRAM'S OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS, A REVIEW OF THE PROGRAM SELECTION PROCESS, AND AN ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LIFE HISTORY AND CRIME SERIOUSNESS. OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS WAS ASSESSED BY MEANS OF A RELATIVE COST ANALYSIS AND A CLIENT AND STAFF ATTITUDE SURVEY. RELATIVE COST ANALYSIS FIGURES REVEALED THAT THE OPERATION OF INTENSIVE THERAPEUTIC CENTERS ARE QUITE EXPENSIVE, COMPARED TO OTHER PROGRAMS. THE ATTITUDE SURVEYS SHOWED THAT THE PRIMARY PROBLEM IN THE TWO PROJECT HOUSES WAS A LACK OF COMMUNICATION. OF THE TWO HOUSES, ONE HAD A 79 PERCENT SUCCESS RATE, WHILE THE SECOND EXPERIENCED A 37 PERCENT SUCCESS RATE. INFORMATION ON THE CLIENT POPULATION FLOW, SOURCES OF REFERRALS, FINAL DISPOSITIONS OF CLIENTS, AND THE EFFECT OF BROADENING SELECTION CRITERIA IS ALSO PROVIDED.
