A MODEL DESCRIPTION AND TRAINING EXERCISES DESIGNED FOR USE WITH THE COMPUTERIZED MODEL OF THE ATLANTA CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM DEVELOPED AS A TRAINING AID FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNERS.
Abstract
THE PURPOSE AND PROCEDURE OF THIS PROGRAM ARE FIRST DESCRIBED. THIS MANUAL IS DESIGNED TO BE USED FOR A TRAINING SESSION LASTING APPROXIMATELY SIX HOURS. THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM MODEL IS A MATHEMATICAL REPRESENTATION OF THE STATES, FLOWS, DECISIONS, AND ACTIONS OF THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE CRIME RELATED ASPECTS OF A CITY. THE EQUATIONS ARE PROGRAMMED FOR CALCULATION ON A LARGE COMPUTER SO THAT THE TIME HISTORIES OF IMPORTANT QUANTITIES SUCH AS THE CRIME RATE, THE BUDGET, AND THE NUMBER OF POLICE OFFICERS CAN BE SIMULATED AND PLOTTED FOR EVALUATION BY THE TRAINEE. MAJOR COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM MODEL AND THE WAYS IN WHICH THEY ARE RELATED ARE INDICATED IN A FLOW CHART. A SERIES OF TEN SIMULATIONS OF THE MODEL UNDER DIFFERENT CONDITIONS WITH EXERCISES, SUGGESTED DISCUSSION TOPICS, AND QUESTIONS ARE PROVIDED FOR THE TRAINEE. LISTINGS OF MODEL PRINT-PLOT VARIABLES, MODEL CONSTANTS, MODEL TABLES, AND MODEL INITIAL VALUES ARE GIVEN. IN ADDITION, COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS ARE INCLUDED TO ALLOW THE USER TO CONTACT THE PROGRAM AND USE ALL OF THE COMMANDS. FOR THE FINAL REPORT OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM TRAINING MODEL PROGRAM, SEE NCJ-19500. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
