This guide is designed to help parents, educators, and counselors to build effective coalitions among youth organizations on issues of alcohol and other drug (AOD) prevention.
Abstract
Following an introductory chapter, the guide summarizes a state-of-the-art, comprehensive approach to program design that examines developmental stages, the role of environmental settings, research findings on protective factors and risk factors, and program strategies. The next chapter covers issues related to needs assessments, and provides a framework for youth prevention program development. A good needs assessment can be a tool to promote collaboration, cooperation, participation, coalition building, and support. The guide discusses how to build successful coalitions, in terms of their functions, structure, and potential problems. The final chapters cover program planning and management, evaluation, and fund raising. 31 references
