THE 1973 ACTIVITIES OF THIS POLICE BRANCH, WHICH INVOLVES ITSELF IN ALL SECTORS OF THE COMMUNITY IN ORDER TO STRESS CRIME PREVENTION AND GAIN COMMUNITY UNDERSTANDING AND APPROVAL OF POLICE FUNCTIONS.
Abstract
PERSONNEL PROMOTIONS AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES OF THE GLASGOW POLICE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT BRANCH ARE FIRST DISCUSSED. FOR MINOR OFFENSES OR DISTURBANCES BY YOUNG PEOPLE, DIVISIONAL OFFICERS USE CONTACT CARDS, LISTING PERSONAL DATA, THE OFFENSE, AND FAMILY BACKGROUND. THE BRANCH REPRESENTATIVES VISIT THE HOMES OF THE CHILDREN AND APPROPRIATE ADVICE IS GIVEN. COMMUNITY RELATIONS ACTIVITIES SUCH AS SPEECHES, OUTINGS, SCHOOL COMPETITIONS AND AWARDS IN SCHOOLS AND YOUTH CLUBS ARE DETAILED. POLICE INVOLVEMENT IN TENANTS' AND RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATIONS TO PREVENT CRIME AND PROMOTE COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES, AND PUBLIC RELATIONS ACTIVITIES SUCH AS CONCERT PARTIES AND FAIRS ARE DESCRIBED AS WELL. APPENDIXES INCLUDE A CHAIN OF COMMAND DIAGRAM, JOB DESCRIPTIONS FOR THE POLICE BRANCH, A SAMPLE SYLLABUS FOR TRAINING COURSES, AND SAMPLE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT COMPETITION FORMS FOR SCHOOLS.
