This brief contains a summary of the 2014 summer meeting of the Bureau of Justice Assistance's Global Advisory Committee.
In June 2014, the Global Advisory Committee of the Bureau of Justice Assistance met in Washington, DC, to discuss the today's public safety challenges facing neighborhoods and the nation as a whole. The Global Advisory Committee (GAC) is composed of representatives from over 30 premier State, local, and tribal justice organizations. Topics covered at the meeting included how innovative practitioners are tackling diverse issues using strategies emphasizing GAC's range of technical and policy standards, solutions, and best practices; key Justice Information Sharing activities that have been complimentary and supportive of GAC's efforts; the role of information sharing in addressing the opioid addition epidemic; and the publication of two documents highlighting solutions for those working in the field - Video Evidence: A Law Enforcement Guide to Resources and Best Practices, and Establishing a Privacy Officer Function Within a Justice or Public Safety Entity: Recommended Responsibilities and Training.
