Operative since 1971, the Danish Crime Prevention Council is charged with furthering the implementation of crime prevention measures.
Abstract
Specifically, the Council encourages citizen self-protection against crime, coordinates police activities with the private protection industry, develops social prevention measures and public education programs, and supervises evaluative and technological research. Council efforts in the area of security have dealt with alarm systems and other aspects of both mechanical and electronic prevention techniques. Public information campaigns have advocated physical deterrence measures, crime awareness attitudes, and Operation Identification participation. School and recreational programs have instruction geared to discouraging delinquency and include police and parental participation. The Council has also been active in furthering crime prevention through city planning and environmental improvement measures. It has encouraged neighborhood crime prevention organization and research on the effectiveness of prevention efforts. Among the latter are geographic crime analyses, police response and attitude studies, and victimization risk assessments.
