Abstract
Unit one addresses general crime prevention responsibilities at home, school, and in the community. The second unit, which deals with rules and law, emphasizes that they are not simply restrictions, but a means to achieve safety and harmony. It also covers bicycle safety. Unit three, covering safety and crime prevention, teaches students ways to protect themselves against crime, how to use the telephone in emergencies, and how to answer the phone when at home alone. Principles of personal safety are explained in greater depth in unit four. Areas explored include the definition of a stranger, coping with dangerous situations, observation skills, and child sexual abuse. Unit five, which focuses on property protection, examines vandalism and the basics of home security, such as locking doors and marking valuables. The final unit explains the duties of law enforcement officers, with attention to their responsibility to help children. The guide outlines objectives for each unit, presents key vocabulary words, and describes several instructional activities. It provides supportive materials for each activity, including posters, quizzes, games, charts, and brochures. A list of resources covers organizations, films, and books.
