REPORT WEIGHS THE FACTORS FOR AND AGAINST THE TAPE RECORDING OF POLICE INTERROGATIONS.
Abstract
THE STUDY CONCLUDES THAT A MODEST EXPERIMENT OF TAPE RECORDING POLICE INTERROGATIONS WOULD BE WORTHWHILE. BUT IT WOULD HAVE TO INVOLVE ACTUAL CASES AS THEY OCCUR. THE STUDY EXAMINES WHETHER THE TAPE RECORDING SHOULD COVER ALL OR PART OF THE INTERROGATION, WHETHER THERE SHOULD BE ANY RESTRICTIONS ON THE PLACE OF THE INTERVIEW, AND WHETHER THE TAPE RECORDING SHOULD COVER THE RANGE OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS UNDERTAKEN BY THE POLICE OR JUST CERTAIN TYPES OF OFFENSES. A CHIEF ADVANTAGE OF TAPE RECORDING IS THAT IT WOULD RESOLVE ANY DISPUTES IN COURT ABOUT WHAT TOOK PLACE DURING AN INTERVIEW....BS
