REVIEW OF THE PROGRESS MADE IN DESIGNING A REGIONAL ORGANIZATION OF CRIME SQUADS AND A METHOD OF EVALUATING ITS EFFECTIVENESS AFTER A TWO-YEAR EXPERIMENTAL PERIOD.
Abstract
CURRENT PROGRAMS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS ARE DISCUSSED: VISITS TO POLICE FORCES, EVALUATION OF REGIONAL CRIME SQUADS, THE INTENSITY OF BEAT PATROLS, EQUIPMENT STUDIES (SILENT BURGLAR ALARM INSTALLATIONS, PERSONAL RADIOS, AND SCRAMBLERS), AND OPERATING PROCEDURES, PROPOSED ADDITIONS TO THE PROGRAM ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. THESE PROJECTS FALL UNDER THE MAIN HEADINGS OF INTELLIGENCE AND INFORMATION FLOW, FURTHER STUDIES OF DETECTION AND PREVENTION METHODS, UNIFORM AND CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION DIVISION INTERCHANGEABILITY, CRIME SQUADS AND CASE LOADS, AND MOBILE PATROLLING. TWELVE SPECIFIC NEW PROJECTS ARE IDENTIFIED, LISTED, AND GIVEN PRIORITY RATINGS. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT CONSIDERATION BE GIVEN TO ADDITIONS IN THE STAFF AND/OR FACILITIES REQUIRED FOR PROPOSED PROGRAMS, ALONG WITH THE POSSIBLE NEED OF PLACING MUCH OF THE WORK WITH OUTSIDE AGENCIES. A LIST OF REFERENCES IS INCLUDED.
