THIS REPORT EVALUATES RESULTS OBTAINED FROM A PROGRAM ASSESSMENT OF THE BEHAVIORAL EFFECTS OF GROUP PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT ON 1,119 LONDON CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION RESIDENTS IN OHIO OVER A 10-YEAR PERIOD.
Abstract
RESULTS SHOW THAT MOST CLIENTS WHO WERE REFERRAL CASES HAVE COMPLETED THEIR GROUP TREATMENT, ADJUSTED AT A MEDIUM-MINIMUM CUSTODY LEVEL, BEEN RELEASED BY THE PAROLE BOARD, AND NOT ACTED OUT TO HAVE BECOME A TRANSFEREE OR PAROLE VIOLATOR. HOWEVER, MOST HAVE NOT BEEN ON RELEASE LONG ENOUGH TO HAVE COMPLETED OR FAILED PAROLE. OF THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN RELEASED LONG ENOUGH, MOST HAVE SUCCEEDED ON RELEASE. CLIENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THEIR GROUP PROGRAM ARE MORE LIKELY TO GAIN A RELEASE FROM THE CURRENT SYSTEM OR SUCCEED ON PAROLE THAN THOSE WHO HAVE NOT COMPLETED THEIR PROGRAM. THE REPORT CONCLUDES THAT THE BEHAVIORAL EFFECTS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT ARE REAL BUT PRINCIPALLY CONCURRENT RATHER THAN FUTURISTIC IN NATURE. FOOTNOTES AND TWO REFERENCES ARE PROVIDED.
