This working paper analyzes the nature and source of domestic political violence in America and posits how it can be dealt with.
Abstract
The author explores some apparent limitations on American domestic political violence and points out how the American system has historically accommodated domestic rebellion by opening up political and economic opportunities for rebellious citizens who perceive themselves as outsiders. Additionally, out-group rebellion often diminishes during periods of increased immigration. The uses of problem-solving workshops, conflict resolution, alternative dispute resolution, and mediation to reach genuine consensus and to eliminate identity group violence are discussed. 63 footnotes.
