This is a record of a hearing on international organized crime before the Subcommittee on Crime, Committee on the Judiciary, House of Representatives, 104th Congress, January 25, 1996.
Abstract
The Hearing began with opening remarks by the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Crime. Seven witnesses who appeared before the group were identified with the Brookings Institution, the Heritage Foundation, Georgetown University and the National Strategy Information Center, Global Advisory Services, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Center for the Study of Asian Organized Crime. Letters and prepared statements were submitted for the Hearing from the Brookings Institution, the Heritage Foundation, a Congressional Representative from the State of Michigan, Georgetown University and the National Strategic Information Center, Global Advisory Services, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Center for the Study of Asian Organized Crime. The witnesses discussed many topics related to international organized crime, including: (1) Russian, Eastern European and Eurasian criminal enterprise groups; (2) Mexican and Colombian drug organizations; (3) trafficking in radioactive materials; and (4) the case for government-private sector cooperation.
