The findings from this outcome evaluation of Guam's Adult Drug Court found that participants in the Guam Adult Drug Court (GADC) consistently showed low drug use and fewer new drug related court cases than non-participants, and that the GADC participants were significantly less likely to be repeat offenders than offenders who were eligible for the program but did not participate. This outcome evaluation of the GADC examined two key factors of the drug treatment court programs: 1) does participation in drug treatment court programs reduce the rate of drug abuse; and 2) does participation in drug treatment court programs reduce recidivism among drug offenders? The evaluation was conducted as part of Drug Court Implementation Grant awarded to Guam in 2002 for implementation of an adult drug treatment court program. Outcome data were obtained for GADC participants and compared to a matched group of offenders who were eligible for drug court during a 2-year period just prior to the GADC implementation. The findings from the evaluation indicate, that overall, the GADC is an effective means of reducing drug use and recidivism among drug addicted offenders.
