This article describes the VME BioDrive, a new device designed to keep sensitive data secure, even when it is transported outside of department walls.
Abstract
Law enforcement agencies often deal with sensitive information that must be carefully guarded. As our world becomes more complex, it is imperative to find ways to keep sensitive information secure. As such, Meganet Corporation designed the VME BioDrive, a data transport device designed to withstand attempts at penetration. The VME BioDrive works by storing electronic data in a device about the size of a marking pen. The device travels easily, is easily concealed, and is virtually impossible to penetrate by unauthorized users. Gaining access to the electronic data is accomplished only by individuals who have their fingerprints stored inside the device. The device is used through a USB computer port and requires no external power supply. The article details computer requirements for the device, which include a 32-MB RAM and 3-MB disk space. The contents of the device are secured under scrambled and changing code, or the contents may be safely e-mailed using the VME-bundled encryption software. The ease of transporting the device is extolled more than once in the article; the device comes with a neck (USB) cord so that users can slip it over their heads and conceal it under their shirts. In addition to the VME BioDrive, Meganet Corporation offers other contemporary security solutions that work with the BioDrive data transport device, including a secured electronic mail management system and an all-purpose digital signature application to authenticate an electronic mail sender.
