Abstract
The differences in the construction of safes designed to protect records from fire and safes designed to protect money and other valuables from burglary are explained and illustrated. The testing and classification of safes and vaults are described, as are the design and construction of combination locks. Methods used by burglars to crack safes and vaults are also explained. Businesses should buy quality equipment from reputable dealers and manufacturers, should use record and money safes properly, and should not necessarily depend on old security equipment. Photographs, charts, and diagrams are included.
