This guide for scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) for police vehicles is a basic reference tool for departments with the average small fleet which would normally rely on the manufacturer's owner's manual.
Abstract
Scheduled PM is a program of regularly performed inspections and services to fleet vehicles and related components at appropriate mileage or time intervals. Adherence to a program of scheduled PM should permit actual and potential mechanical and physical appearance problems in time to apply a system of corrective actions. Two schedules are included. The 3,000-mile interval is for city vehicles which normally operate at low speeds and have high idle times. The 5,000-mile schedule is for county and State vehicles which are used mostly for highway driving. This program is logically designed around engine oil change, oil and air filter change, lubrication, and emission controls service. The guide tells what should be checked and when. Special interest sections discuss gasolines, engine oils, inspection of critical components, and tires. Charts delineate the 3,000-mile and 5,000-mile schedules. (Author abstract modified)
