This report summarizes the activities and accomplishments of the Florida Department of Corrections during the 1994-95 fiscal year and provides statistics on inmate and community supervision populations, admissions, and releases.
Abstract
In a 10-month period beginning in August 1994, the department built 5,940 new prison sells using prefabricated T-Cell building construction techniques and materials. On June 30, 1995, the system had a total of 61,992 inmates at a total daily cost of $42.51. More than 22,000 inmates entered the prison system during the year, and more than 22,000 were released. A total of 136,056 offenders were under community supervision at the end of the fiscal year. The report provides organization charts, facility profiles, budget and workforce information, a legislative update, descriptions of offender programs and drug treatment programs, data on escapes, and a summary of death row inmates and executions. Among the 32 recommended actions for improving correctional services in the State are increasing the percentage of single-cell housing units to match the increase in violent and disruptive inmates and conducting formal risk and needs assessments for 97 percent of inmates and all offenders placed under community supervision.
