These guidelines give a short description of important rules for detainees and remand prisoners in Denmark.
Abstract
The guidelines are organized in four sections. The first section covers arrest, and the focus is on the preliminary examination, contact with a lawyer, extended detention, isolation, foreigners, and the police role. The second section deals with remand in custody, and consideration is paid to the lawyer's role, the imprisonment deadline, appeal, visit and letter control, and telephone calls. The third section identifies the rights of detainees and remand prisoners with respect to work, bath and toilet necessities, visits, personal and social assistance, letters, discipline, property and money, free time, association, appeal, food and drink, the use of force, transfer to a penal institution, health needs, education, and search. The final section discusses judgment in relation to continuing remand in custody, appeal, and the prison sentence.
