These guidelines are intended to provide California law enforcement personnel with standard procedures and step-by-step instructions to follow in the detection, investigation, and response to cases in which a child is a victim of abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, or sexual exploitation.
Abstract
The guidelines reflect current law and accepted practices for investigating reported child abuse offenses. The guidelines include interview and interrogation techniques, as well as procedures for determining whether or not a child should be taken into protective custody as well as minimizing the number of times a child is interviewed by law enforcement personnel. The guidelines are not mandatory, but they note the mandatory provisions of the law. Appended glossary, checklists, excerpts of laws, and list of 10 references.
