Annotation

This report presents technical appendixes from an evaluation of the multijurisdictional, voluntary use of of the multijurisdictional, voluntary use of sentencing guidelines to reduce sentencing disparity in selected jurisdictions of Florida and Maryland.

Abstract

The research began in 1978 with a grant from the National Institute of Justice to the Mitre Corporation for the development of a plan for a multijurisdictional test of sentencing guidelines. The evaluation involved process, impact, and compliance analyses. These technical appendixes for the evaluation report include a contemporary overview of sentencing guidelines and descriptions of both States' felony disposition processes from the State codes, rules of procedure, and statutes and case law. Both States' multijurisdictional sentencing guidelines are also provided, along with the data on sentencing in burglary cases (used in the impact and compliance analyses). Appendixes also contain the mid-year sentencing guidelines questionnaire, a hypothetical case description, supplementary burglary analysis tables, supplementary tables for the compliance analysis, and a list of interview respondents.
