METHODS OF BREAKING AN ATTACKER'S GRASP ON THE WRIST AND NECK ARE DEMONSTRATED AND EXPLAINED IN A FILMSTRIP-CASSETTE FORMAT; THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED FOR FEMALE STUDENTS AND OTHERS INTERESTED IN SELF-DEFENSE.
Abstract
IT IS POINTED OUT THAT MOST COMMON WAYS OF GRABBING SOMEONE ARE ALSO THE MOST EASILY BROKEN GRIPS. WRIST RELEASES ARE POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF ONE WEAK AREA IN THE HAND, AGAINST WHICH LEVERAGE MUST BE APPLIED. THREE METHODS OF BREAKING WRIST GRASPS ARE THE SNAP WRIST RELEASE, THE ROLL-AROUND WRIST RELEASE, AND THE TWO-HANDED WRIST RELEASE. ELEMENTS OF SUPRISE, I.E., MOVING TOWARD THE ATTACKER RATHER THAN AWAY FROM HIM, AND QUICK MOVEMENTS ARE STRESSED. FRONT AND REAR STRANGLE RELEASES, BOTH INVOLVING USE OF THE ATTACKER'S WEAK POINTS (WRISTS) AND SURPRISE TO BREAK HIS HOLD, ARE ALSO SHOWN AND DESCRIBED IN DETAIL. VICTIMS OF ATTACK ARE ADVISED TO ATTEMPT TO STRIKE A STUNNING BLOW AFTER BREAKING AN ATTACKER'S GRASP SO THAT MORE TIME MAY BE GAINED IN WHICH TO ESCAPE.
