THIS HANDBOOK LISTS THE SERVICES OF THE FBI'S LABORATORY AND IDENTIFICATION DIVISIONS AND EXPLAINS THEM IN DETAIL.
Abstract
THE SECTION ON THE IDENTIFICATION DIVISION GIVES FULL INSTRUCTIONS ON SUBMITTING EVIDENCE, THE TYPE OF SEARCHES IT WILL PERFORM, AND THE TYPES OF FILES AT ITS DISPOSAL IN IDENTIFYING PERSONS AS REQUESTED BY OFFICIAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. THE SECTION ON THE LABORATORY DIVISION IS CONCERNED WITH FINDING THE EVIDENCE, HOW TO SEND IT, AND WHAT TO EXPECT FROM IT. THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONS OF THE CAB ARE COVERED: SEROLOGY; MICROSCOPIC ANALYSIS; MINERALOGY; CHEMICAL EXAMINATIONS; GLASS FRACTURES; FIREARMS IDENTIFICATION; TOOLMARK IDENTIFICATION; WOOD; METALLURGY; INSTRUMENTAL ANALYSIS; RADIATION HAZARDS; EXPLOSIVES; BOMB SCENE SEARCHES; LAW ENFORCEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY; DOCUMENT EXAMINATION; SHOE PRINT AND TIRE TREAD EVIDENCE; CRYPTANALYSIS - GAMBLING TRANSLATION SECTION; AND, RADIO ENGINEERING SECTION.
