This handbook provides a management guide for training commercial and industrial security forces.
Abstract
It covers procedures and practices necessary for day-to-day security operations, including client and public relations, rules and general orders, security procedures and guard post assignments, forms and records, and report writing. Also covered are personal safety practices, interviewing and investigation, and the pros and cons of having armed guards and policies on firearms and the use of deadly force. A review also is provided of the laws of arrest, search and seizure, and the collection and preservation of evidence. Policies and procedures are provided for various of special situations, including dealing with disturbed or drug-influenced persons, handling bomb threats and annoying telephone calls, and security precautions needed during labor disputes. Civil disturbance planning and employee misconduct and traffic accident investigation also are discussed. Physical security precautions, including self-defense, alarms, closed-circuit television, and locks and key control, are reviewed. A final chapter covers protection against sabotage and espionage. Appendixes provide examples of a variety of report forms, registers, logs, checklists, and description sheets. 11 references.
