The handling of citizens' reports is a basic police responsibility, because the appropriate handling of reports and the polite way police interact with citizens contributes greatly to public satisfaction with the police.
Abstract
Detecting crime and maintaining law and public order are important police functions, but police must recognize their other responsibilities as well. The way they handle reports, evaluate the intelligence received, and take action all serve the interest of maintaining law and order. Therefore, police must consider the handling of citizen reports as an important function. The author is the head of the citizen complain office at the Pest County Police Headquarters in Hungary.
