HARDLINERS IN ST. LOUIS MISSOURI WANT PROCEDURES OTHER THAN THE EXCLUSIONARY RULE FOR DEALING DIRECTLY WITH AN OFFICER WHO VIOLATES A SUSPECT'S CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.
Abstract
A REVIEW IS PRESENTED OF AN ARTICLE STATING THE HARD-LINE APPROACH TO CRIME WHICH SEES THE VICTIM, RATHER THAN THE CRIMINAL, AS THE WORTHY OBJECT OF COMPASSION. THE PROPONENTS OF THIS APPROACH STATE THAT THE EXCLUSIONARY RULE, WHICH PROHIBITS THE USE OF IMPROPERLY OBTAINED EVIDENCE AGAINST A DEFENDANT, WORKS TO RETURN THE CRIMINAL TO THE STREET, WITH TOTAL DISREGARD FOR THE RIGHTS OF THOSE WHOM HE MAY DECIDE TO VICTIMIZE NEXT.
