This report presents statistical tables and charts and a narrative summary of inmate population counts for the end of each month and the monthly and annual number of admissions and releases during fiscal year 1993-94 for the correctional facilities under the jurisdiction of the Hawaii Department of Public Safety Corrections Division.
Abstract
The Division operated five community correctional centers and three correctional facilities on four islands during the fiscal year 1993-1994. Total division expenditures for the fiscal year were $78,939,525. Of this total, 22 percent was spent for program services to provide food, education, library, and health services for the inmates. Another 9.7 percent was spent for administrative services. Between June 30 of 1993 and 1994, the statewide assigned count increased by 3.6 percent from 3,133 to 3,246 over the course of the fiscal year. The head count ranged from a low of 2,775 to a high of 2,930 and averaged 2,849 half of these inmates were sentenced felons. The second largest group was comprised of pretrial felons. The 8,306 new admissions represented a 9 percent increase over the previous fiscal year. The 8,151 discharges increased 9.5 percent over the previous fiscal year. Tables, figures, and glossary
