This manual is designed for counselors, educators, and parents who are interested in helping adolescents escape the patterns of social violence caused by long-standing imbalances between the "haves" and the "have nots" in society.
Abstract
The first section presents general issues for adults to consider in working with teenagers. The second section discusses basic theory about age, gender, and race-related power imbalances which cause violence, followed by an outline of liberatory techniques, a hands-on curriculum for teaching youth, suggestions for training other adults in workshops on these issues, and strategies and techniques for establishing long-term support for youngsters dealing with abuse and violence. Each section contains exercises and roleplays for work with youths across lines of age, gender, and race. The heart of the book is the 2-day, 50-minute class curriculum on family and relationship violence prevention.
