Abstract
The manual is also intended as a text for group-living supervisors, parents, criminal justice students, and others. The text explains how individual personalities develop normally and abnormally and discusses the implications for correctional treatment. It also describes and illustrates effective treatment techniques. Other sections define the personality requirements and interpersonal skills of an effective youth counselor; present a self-administered quiz for current and potential youth workers; explain milieu therapy in group living programs using a historical account of the California Youth Authority's first treatment program for emotionally disturbed offenders; and defines and discusses personality counseling. The text concludes with practical instructions on the use of a large-group method called Community Counseling. Chapter notes, illustrations, and footnotes
