This 1991-92 report of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons for Scotland encompasses the work of the Inspectorate in 1991-92, prison staff and management, prison regimes, prison support services, and recommendations.
Abstract
Information on the work of the Inspectorate addresses staff, inspections, reports, methodology, and training. The report on prison staff and management includes information on communications, staff training, and staff facilities. The overview of the state of prison regimes contains sections on inmate clothing, industries, physical education, recreation, visits, and education. A report on prison support services encompasses medical services, psychological and psychiatric services, social work, and ethnic minorities. One recommendation is that staff facilities should be reviewed with a view toward their enhancement, since these facilities are a significant factor in staff morale and the efficient operation of prisons. A second recommendation is that greater priority be given to improving prison accommodations for inmate visits, as well as visiting facilities and the time allowed. These improvements should extend to visitors' waiting rooms and the general reception of visitors in the prisons. Appended race relations policy statement
