Abstract
An introductory chapter explains the basic skills that police officers should use in every situation, such as the use of cover, positioning and contact, the use of verbal commands, weaponless defense and control tactics, firearms use and retention, handcuffing techniques, body search techniques, and the use of impact weapons. Additional chapters detail vehicle stops and contact, the handling of domestic disturbances, contacts with intoxicated persons, investigations of suspicious persons, burglaries and searches of structures, and dealing with barricades and hostage takers. Further chapters focus on high-speed pursuits, armed robberies in progress, ambush attacks, the handling of mentally ill offenders, confrontations while off duty, prisoner control and transport, and stress management.
